The dependence of infiltration pressure and volume in zeolite Y on potassium chloride concentration

چکیده
In a previous work we developed a volume-memory liquid that can expand or shrink significantly as the temperature varies. The working mechanism is based on the thermally induced infiltration and defiltration of an electrolyte solution in the nanopores. In the current study, we investigate the influence of electrolyte concentration on the infiltration behavior, as well as its dependence on temperature. The testing data show that, as the electrolyte concentration varies, the effective interfacial tension changes rapidly. This phenomenon can be attributed to the amplification effect of nanopore surfaces on the solid–liquid interaction. It provides a scientific basis for developing smart liquids for various temperature and pressure ranges. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Infiltration pressure of a nanoporous liquid spring modified by an electrolyte
In a hydrophobic zeolite, the infiltration and defiltration of water can be controlled by adjusting external pressure, and therefore the system behaves as a “liquid spring.” Since the hysteresis of sorption isotherm is negligible and the working pressure is thermally controllable, volume memory devices can be developed based on this phenomenon. With the addition of sodium chloride, both infiltr...
متن کاملImpact of Distillery Effluent and Salts on Hydraulic Conductivity of a Sandy Loam Soil
Irrigation with distillery effluent, besides influencing crop yield, may have considerable impact on physical properties of soil because of its high salt and organic carbon contents. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effect of distillery effluent on hydraulic conductivity of a sandy loam alluvial soil and compare the effect of inorganic salts of potassium (K) with that of di...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of Potassium Chloride Melting (II. Constant Volume and Constant Pressure Simulation of Filled System)
We have used a simple ionic potential to simulate the melting of KCI pseudo-infinite crystal. Two MD simulations, one with constant Volume and the other with constant pressure condition are performed. These results are compared with the previous micro-sample simulation results. In the constant volume simulation the melting temperature increase substantially with increasing pressure. A method fo...

Backgrounds and Objectives:Phosphate discharges from domestic and industrial waste water to water bodies. High concentrations of phosphate in water stimulate the eutrophication phenomenon that causes taste and odor in water, losing dissolved oxygen and aquatic life in rivers or surface waters. Aim of this study is survey of phosphate adsorption on simple nano zeolite Y and nano zeolite Y that w...
متن کاملInfluence of anions on liquid infiltration and defiltration in a zeolite Y.
In pure water a hydrothermally treated zeolite Y is hydrophilic, while with the addition of an electrolyte it can no longer be soaked up spontaneously. The effective degree of hydrophobicity increases with the ion concentration, which is reflected by the increase in infiltration pressure. The pressure-induced infiltration behavior is not only determined by the cations, but also highly dependent...
